Hello, I’m Janaska, and this is 5 things  I’ve learned PATIENTS REALLY WANT from their primary care:

1.       To talk to the provider directly.

When patients have questions they want to talk to the provider, not the medical assistant, not the receptionist.

2.       Timely scheduling.

Waiting months or weeks for a visit is difficult and can lead to further complications.

3.       To not feel rushed during visits.

We all need longer visits and more face to face time with our primary care, 15 minutes is just not enough to be heard.

4.      To have visits with the same provider you trust.

Seeing different providers for every visit can make building a trusting relationship hard.

5.       When you are sick, you want the provider to come to you.

Leaving your home when we have the flu is miserable. No one wants to leave their house when they are ill.

Individuals with Dementia

Elderflower is a primary care practice that specializes in patients with dementia to help manage symptoms with evidence-based methods and education.

We work together to prepare for the future while keeping patients’ goals and quality of life at the foundation of our healthcare relationship.

Home-Based Primary Care

also known as House Calls

Visits occur in the patient's home whether it’s your house, apartment, assisted living, or senior community.

Clinic visits can be disorienting and increase agitation and discomfort in patients, especially those with dementia. I come to patients where they are most comfortable and least disruptive to their lives.

Why Primary Care?

Primary care requires a dedication and a joy of relationship building that brings meaning to me. I don't want patients to feel like another number moving through a revolving door, and I want to be there as a resource during the important health related decisions. Yes, I am one of those people who has trouble sleeping if I don't know the outcome of my recommendations, which is why urgent care or other specialties don’t appeal to me. Consistency, connection and meaning are all a part of my drive to be a primary care provider. I want a phone call when something is wrong at the pharmacy, I want you to talk about  going to your grandchild’s wedding during our visit and if you're going to dance. We all have to find our calling. My calling is to help others and to be the bridge between science and compassion. And yes, we will be going through all your medication bottles above your sink and deciding which ones really benefit you and which ones are just a choking hazard.
